Advantages of HK Freight Development

Hong Kong International Airport

  • Hong Kong International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world. In 2021, Hong Kong International Airport’s cargo throughput (including airmail) will reach 5 million metric tons, ranking first in the world.
  • Hong Kong is one of the regional hubs in Asia. From Hong Kong, most cities in Asia can be reached within 5 hours, covering about half of the world’s population. Before the new crown epidemic, there were about 120 airlines operating at Hong Kong International Airport, going to about 220 locations around the world, including about 50 mainland cities.
  • Hong Kong International Airport has 5 cargo terminals with the largest scale, which can handle more than 7 million metric tons of cargo every year.ading of high-value goods, warehouse storage, logistics and distribution centers

Three Runs at the Airport

  • With the commencement of the Three-runway System in 2024 it will significantly enhance the airport’s capacity and connectivity, as well as create more opportunities for inter-modal transshipments such as air-sea and air-land
  • The completion of the third runway is expected to handle more than 9 million tons of air cargo throughput per year
  • HKIA strives to provide excellent, world-class air cargo service delivering cargo efficiently across the globe
  • Collaborate with cities in the Greater Bay Area to achieve greater benefits. The Airport Authority is planning to set up a “Hong Kong International Airport Logistics Park” in Dongguan, and at the same time set up an “airside sea-air freight terminal” in the newly reclaimed area of the airport’s third runway, creating a new cooperation model for the whole industry chain, so that the goods exported from the mainland can be exported The logistics park located in Dongguan completes customs clearance, security inspection and other procedures, and transports by sea to the cargo terminal in the restricted area of Hong Kong International Airport, and directly transfers to all parts of the world. As for air cargo imported into the Mainland, it can also be transported directly from the restricted area of Hong Kong International Airport to Dongguan through the same channel and then distributed to various places.

Temperature Controlled Goods

  • Temperature-controlled drug freight has great potential for future development
  • Strong market demand for electronic trading of high-value goods, warehouse storage, logistics and distribution centers
  • HKIA is providing more than 30 cool dollies
  • To improve the quality of existing temperature-controlled drug shipments, and to allow cargo terminal operators to lease

Thanks to the support of seven , IATA CEIV Pharama-certified cargo operators, as well as the Airport Authority’s own dedicated hardware

Fresh Goods

  • HKIA is also the world’s first airport community to receive IATA CEIV FRESH certification, representing competency and high handling standards for perishable cargo
  • Such as live seafood, fruits and vegetables, and frozen meats
  • CEIV FRESH
  • HACTL
  • CPSL
  • CATHAY PACIFIC CARGO

Air Freight

  • The air transport industry can be divided into two parts: cargo and passenger. Regardless of freight and passenger transport, there are airlines operating scheduled and non-scheduled flights. More than half of the air cargo is transported by passenger aircraft cargo compartments rather than pure cargo aircraft, and can be divided into two categories: express cargo and heavy cargo.
  • Before the new crown epidemic, about 120 international airlines provided passenger and all-cargo flights between Hong Kong and about 220 destinations around the world, including about 50 mainland cities. At present, Hong Kong has signed air transport service agreements with 67 countries and regions.
  • Most of the air cargo and logistics operations at Hong Kong International Airport are operated by private companies. The five cargo terminals currently owned by the airport can handle more than 7 million metric tons of cargo per year, which is among the best in the world.

Sea Freight

  • More and more countries intend to privatize port operations and/or develop new ports on commercial principles, and the market demand for the export of maritime transport services is also increasing day by day.
  • Hong Kong port operators are very active in this area and have made considerable progress in mainland China and elsewhere. The Hong Kong container terminal operator group’s operating network covers 52 ports in 26 countries. In 2021, the group handled 88 million TEUs.
  • As of September 2022, 2,438 ships, totaling 128 million gross tons, have been registered with the Hong Kong Shipping Registry. In addition, as of the end of 2021, Hong Kong is the fourth largest shipping registry in the world, after Panama, Liberia and the Marshall Islands.
